The History of UNO

However, to play these games with your friends or family, you can opt for a simple deck used for any classic card game like Freecell Solitaire or Go Fish.

When thinking about beloved card games, one can’t help but think of UNO. The classic card game UNO has been around for over 40 years and is enjoyed by people of all ages. The history of UNO is interesting, and the game has undergone some changes over the years.

The card game was created in 1971 by a man named Merle Robbins. He owned a small printing company and came up with the idea for the game when he was trying to come up with a new product to print. He originally called the game “Wild Card,” but later changed the name to UNO, after seeing how popular the game was becoming.

The original UNO deck had four suits: red, green, blue, and yellow, and each color had 25 cards: 0-9, plus two Skip, Reverse, and Draw Two cards. The Wild card allowed players to change the color of play, and the Draw Four card could be used to make another player draw four cards from the deck.

In 1992, UNO was acquired by Mattel, and the game underwent some changes. The number of suits was increased to five, adding black, and special Action cards were added to the deck, including Wild Draw Four, Wild Swap Hands, and Wild All Play. These changes made the game even more fun and exciting for players.

How to play the classic card game of UNO?

Over the years, UNO has continued to be one of the most popular card games in the world. It is a great way to spend time with family and friends and since it is easy to learn it can be played by people of all ages.

To start, each player is dealt seven cards face down. The remaining cards are placed face down in the middle of the players to form a draw pile. The top card of the draw pile is turned over to begin the discard pile.

Players take turns matching either the color or number of the card on the top of the discard pile. For example, if the top card on the discard pile is a red 7, players can place any red card or any 7 from their hand on top of it. If they don’t have a match, they must draw one card from the draw pile and play it if they can. If they still cannot play, their turn passes.

When you play your next-to-last card, you must shout “UNO!”, which means one. Failure to do so results in having to draw two more cards from the draw pile as punishment.  The game ends when one player runs out of cards and wins!
