The function of Action Cards

Note: Remember all the power cards can be only played on a matching color or on the same face card except wild. You can use a wild card anytime.

Light Side Cards

Draw One Card

Draw one card that has a direct impact on the opponents. If someone throws draw one card that means the next player has to pick up 1 card from the draw pile and forfeit his/her turn.

Reverse Card

This card changes the direction of the turns. If turns are going clockwise then after placing the reverse card turn will go anti-clockwise.

Skip Card

Skip will skip the next player’s turn and he will play on their next turn until someone changes the direction or throw the skip card again 😜.

Wild Card

This card helps you to change the color on the board and this card can be used anytime and the player has to say which color they are changing. It’s a really helpful card and can change the game completely.

Wild Draw 2 Card

+2 wild card is the most powerful card on the light side of the game. If players throw this card then, first of all, he/she will decide the color and the next player has to pick up 2 cards from the draw pile and loses their turn. This card is only played if he/she doesn’t have any other card left to play. However, If you suspect that a Wild Draw card has been played on you illegally (i.e. the player has a matching card), then you may challenge that player. The challenged player must show you (the challenger) their hand. If guilty, the challenged player must draw the 2 cards instead of you. However, if the challenged player is innocent, you must draw the 2 cards PLUS an additional 2 cards (4 total)!

Note
It is acceptable to play this card if you have a matching number or Action Cards. If you want to increase the difficulty of the game then you can but these rules otherwise it is fine to play wild card anytime.

Flip Card

By the name of this card, you got to know what this card meant. When you play this card, everything flips upside down (Light Side to the Dark Side ) or vice versa. Once the Flip card has been placed in the draw pile, flip the Discard Pile, the Draw Pile and everyone’s hands must flip to the other side.

Dark Side Cards

Draw 5 Card

When you play this card, the next player must draw five cards and miss their turn. This card may only be played on a matching color or on another Draw Five card.

Reverse Card

This card changes the direction of the turns. If turns are going clockwise then after placing the reverse card turn will go anti-clockwise.

Skip Everyone card

Now here is a twist, the dark side skip card skip’s everyone chance and the player who throws this card will play again.

Wild Card

This card helps you to change the color on the board and this card can be used anytime and the player has to say which color to they are changing. It’s a really helpful card and can change the game completely.

Wild Draw Color Card

This is a very interesting and new concept card. Wild draw color card, the next player has to pick up the cards from the draw pile until he/she gets the particular color from the draw pile and the player has to lose their turn. Color will be selected by the player who throws the card. This card is only played if he/she doesn’t have any other card left to play. However, If you suspect that a Wild Draw Color card has been played on you illegally (i.e. the player has a matching card), then you may challenge that player. The challenged player must show you (the challenger) their hand. If guilty, the challenged player must draw the cards until they get the chosen color instead of you. However, if the challenged player is innocent, you must draw the cards until you get the chosen color PLUS an additional 2 cards!

Note
It is acceptable to play this card if you have a matching number or Action Cards. If you want to increase the difficulty of the game then you can add this rule otherwise it is fine to play wild cards anytime.

Dark Flip Card

When you play this card, everything flips upside down (Dark Side to Light Side ). Once the Flip card has been placed in the draw pile, flip the Discard Pile, the Draw Pile and everyone’s hands must flip to the other side.

How To Play

  • To start the game, each player is dealt 5 cards. The remaining cards are placed in the middle of the players as a draw pile, face down.
  • The player who is sitting on the left side of the dealer will start the game or you can decide on your own.
  • Before any player plays their card they must put one card from the draw pile and place it in the center of everyone. The player can choose his card by matching the number or color from the center-placed card. If the card is matched then the game continues to the next player. If they cannot play the card they must either draw another card from the draw pile and end their turn by saying “SKIP” or place the card in the building pile if they got a playable card from the draw pile.
  • The first player to play all of their cards wins the match but to win the whole game you have to check the scoring points section.

Scoring Points

So, let’s talk about how to calculate the score and who will win the game and how. Basically, the player who gets rid of all of their cards won the game and all of their opponent’s points will be yours and the whoever reaches first 250 points will win the match.

Alternative Scoring & Winning

Another way to score points is to keep a running tally of the points each player is left with at the end of each round. When one player reaches 250 points, the player with the lowest points is the winner. Here below we have listed the score points of each card and according to this, you can calculate the score.

All number cards (1-9) Face Value
Draw One 10 Points
Draw Five 20 Points
Reverse 20 Points
Skip 20 Points
Skip Everyone 30 Points
Flip 20 Points
Wild 40 Points
Wild Draw Two 50 Points
Wild Draw Color 60 Points
Note: Remember, score points based on which side (light or dark) the game ended.

Should You Buy?

According to me, you should not buy UNO FLIP EXPRESS if you have UNO FLIP already because you can play uno flip express with normal uno flip cards. In case you don’t have UNO flip cards then I would suggest you go with UNO flip express cards because UNO flip has some cons which have been fixed in the express. UNO Flip express cost a little bit high and a round of game takes time to compete which makes the game little bit boring sometimes. If you have a small group of players then you go with UNO flip express.

My Thoughts

Well, I and my siblings were playing original Uno flip and we were around 9 players playing after a while, we realised that game was not ending it was just going on and on. While having so many players our turn was coming late and there was no flow. So, we felt something lacking/missing. Now, after seeing UNO flip express I think Mattel knows about this long ongoing game that’s why they come with UNO Flip Express and this game is actually solving the problem of the existing uno flip card game. Now, as always I would like to know about this post we have written and which card game we should cover next.
